Designer-stylist Jason Christopher Peters talks fashion, ideas, style and the runway. The message…

So I had the pleasure of speaking with designer Jason Christopher Peters.  We talk fashion, art and inspiration.   Jason sends a resounding message behind his artistry with words strung together like  “Love is love, black models matter, save the earth, its my choice, and stop child marriage.”

Overall and among the vast myriad of things we spoke about, the messages and themes that rang clear was giving a voice to the unheard and inspiring others to be “open minded and checking viewpoints.” Peters encourages others to “be open minded” and “change your way of thinking.”   Peters wanted to do something that inspired acceptance and equality.  On time with pride month Jason launched a collection of designs with a show of talent and fashion in the surrounding Atlanta area.

The messages behind his designs are meant to be thought provoking and to bring others together.  Peters champions the support of those who have helped inspire his growth and exploration in the fashion industry. He has had various experiences, from model to intern, stylist and now designer-stylist, the combination of the two.  Peters frequents paths with the well known and wealthy and while some members of his family may not quite understand the iconicism of Jason’s inner circle his family understands his truest success.  His most endearing accomplishment is his happiness and his ability to inspire change, in others.

Peters was alongside his mother and her battle with cancer, much of his forward movement is attributed to his work ethic to push past loss.  It can also be attributed to his memories of his grandmother and “pops”. Seeing his grandmother who raised him, sew and play an active role in his life, left a resilient impression.  Everyone needs an opportunity and among his first was with designer Betsey Johnson.  Jason accredits Johnson with being relatable and giving him and opportunity to hone in on his life’s work and that life’s work is to tell stories and messages with powerful imprints behind them.  With over nineteen years in the industry, Jason continues to carve out a road that strikes at what the heart of the fashion industry is about, change, evolution, and making statements.
